Comments

When you leave a comment on our site, we collect the information you provide in the comments form, as well as your IP address and browser information to help detect spam. If you use Gravatar for your profile picture, an anonymized string of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. You can read Gravatar’s privacy policy here. If you upload images, please avoid including images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Other visitors can potentially extract location data from any images posted on our site.

Cookies

  • If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies, so you don’t need to re-enter them the next time you comment. These cookies last for one year.
  • When you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to see if your browser accepts cookies. This is discarded when you close your browser and contains no personal information.
  • When you log in, we set up cookies to save your login status and screen preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen options cookies last a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login cookies last for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
  • If you edit or publish an article, a cookie will be saved in your browser. It contains only the post ID of the article you edited and expires after one day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may contain embedded content (like videos or images). Embedded content from other websites acts the same as if you visited those websites directly. These external sites may collect data about you, use cookies, include additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their content, especially if you have an account and are logged in to their site.

Data Sharing

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How Long We Keep Your Data

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them for moderation. For registered users, we store the personal information provided in your profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for their username). Administrators can also view and edit this information.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, including information you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold. This does not include information we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons.
